Barbara H. Cassino

    Barbara Cassino Longtime Waterloo resident Barbara H. Cassino, retired Associate Professor of Art at the University of Northern Iowa, passed away Friday, September 29, 2011, at Borgess Gardens nursing home in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  She was eighty years old. Professor Cassino was a passionate and talented teacher and nationally recognized ceramicist with an extensive and unique exhibition record.  Born in Nutley, New Jersey, she completed her initial training at The Cooper Union School of Art in New York City, and later earned BFA and MFA degrees (with honors) at the University of Michigan. Friends and family will also remember Barbara as an accomplished interior designer, an enthusiastic Oriental art collector, an animal lover, and a concerned parent. Barbara is survived by three sons, Andrew Cassino of Seattle, Mark (Pamela) Cassino of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Jonathan Cassino of Ann Arbor, Michigan; two brothers, Joseph (Dolly) Heinz of New Jersey and Thomas (Hilda) Heinz of New Jersey; nieces and nephews.
