Wendell Williams, ca.1960 Wendell T. "W. W." Williams, 61, of Charles City, died Saturday, February 24, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, from complications of myelofibrosis; survivors include his wife, Vicki; two sons, David of Charles City and Steve of Bend, Oregon; a daughter, Wendy Pittman of Colleyville, Texas; two granddaughters; his mother, Opal Williams Mattson of New London; a brother, Harold of Carthage, Illinois; and three sisters, Virginia Gibson of Edmonton, Canada, Joyce Hanson of New London and Judy Williams of Eldridge; he was preceded in death by his father, Harry; and a brother, John. Services will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, both in Charles City; friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and also from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home; visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church; memorials may be directed to the Charles City Century Club to support local athletes. Mr. Williams was a 1958 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, in 1963, with a physical education major. He obtained his master's degree in 1973; in 1995 he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at UNI. Mr. Williams was a teacher and coach for more than thirty-seven years with the Gladbrook, Cedar Falls, and Charles City school systems, retiring in 1998. In 1975 Mr. Williams originated the UNI Coaches Stag, now the WW Open (golf), and for the past three years had owned and operated the WW Driving School.
