Wesley Dean “Zeke” Hogeland, 89, formerly of Iowa Falls and Cedar Falls, died Monday, October 26, 2015, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was born November 25, 1925, in Iowa Falls, son of John H. and Leta Snyder Hogeland. He married Gretchen Honor Glover of Decorah on June 4, 1952; she died in June 1999. Wesley graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1944 and then served in the U. S. Air Force. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa) and then earned a master’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1952. He began his teaching and coaching career in 1949 as Decorah High School’s head basketball coach. In 1951 he became head basketball coach in Washington with other teaching responsibilities. He taught and coached from 1955 to 1962 at Mason City High School and Mason City Junior College. From 1962 to 1967 he was professor and head basketball coach at Bemidji (Minnesota) State College. In 1967 he then became a professor and head basketball coach at UNI. He owned and operated several golf and bowling businesses in the 1970s, '80s, and '90s. Survived by: his children, Wesley II (Vicki), Cindy (Steve) Mackenzie, and Scott (Jill); six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: two brothers, John and Lyle. Graveside services with military honors: 11 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015, at Crestview Cemetery, Highway 70, Hot Springs.
