Newana Jane Kapler, 68, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center. She was born April 7, 1944, in Cresco, daughter of Arnold E. and Ruth Newana Armstrong Kapler. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1962 and retired from the University of Northern Iowa, where she had been an administrative secretary for more than twenty years. Survived by:  five brothers, Daniel (Nancy) Kapler of St. Charles, Missouri, David (Margaret) Kapler of Lincoln, Nebraska, Steven (Carolyn) and Jeffrey (Lisa) Kapler, both of Waterloo, and Phillip (Cheryl) Kapler of Lakeville, Minnesota; and six sisters, Julene Contreras of Cedar Falls, Lorna Thomas, Linda (Patrick) Connell, Elaine (Steve) Shelton, Sheila Kapler, and Renee (Todd) Thompson, all of Waterloo. Preceded in death by: a brother-in-law, Jim Thomas.
