M. Ruth Sevy

M. Ruth Sevy, 86, of 2019 Whiteway Drive,Cedar Falls, died at home Sunday, July 5, 1998, of natural causes. She was born August. 6, 1911, in East Lynn, Missouri, daughter of Thomas P. and Clara Clark Sevy. She received her bachelor's degree from Central Missouri State University and her master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado. She was overseas recreation director for the American Red Cross from 1944 to 1947, then was head of the women's physical education department at Fort Hays University, Fort Hays, Kansas. From 1961 to 1967 she was head of the Women's Department of Health and Physical Education at the University of South Dakota at Vermillion and was professor of physical education at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, retiring in 1980. She was past president of the Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation in both Kansas and South Dakota. Survived by: great-nephews and great-nieces. Preceded in death by: three brothers, Lester, Paul and John Sevy; and two sisters, Nettie Welch and Nellie Allen. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
