Lee began his career at UNI in November 1980 working as a public safety officer. In January 1995, Lee changed his status to public safety dispatcher where he worked until October 1995, when he took a leave due to medical treatments. Lee was born on June 29, 1940, in Waterloo, the son of Leslie and Mabel Kammeyer Baruth. Survivors include his mother, Mabel DeVries of Denver, Iowa; one son, Bret Baruth of Parkersburg; one daughter, Becky Scheidecker of Plano, Texas; three brothers, Donald of Strawberry Point, James of Kensett, and Larry of Waterloo; one sister, Ellen Johnson of Walla Walla, Washington; and two granddaughters, Ashley and Christina. Memorial services were held on Thursday, March 21, 1996, at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball Avenue with burial in the Garden of Memories cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Society.
