Helen Thornton Cowley

Helen Thornton Cowley, 93, formerly of Cedar Falls, died August 16, 2002, in Blacksburg, Virginia.  She was born in Wichita, Kansas, and married John Paul Cowley in 1932.  He died in 1985.  She received her bachelor of arts degree with honors from Wichita State University in 1931 and moved to Cedar Falls in 1945.  In the early 1950s she and her husband were founding members of what would become the Unitarian Universalist Society of Black Hawk County Mrs. Cowley returned to school in the early 1960s and obtained credentialing in library science, and then was employed in the Price Laboratory School library for a short time. Survived by:  a son, John (Judy) Cowley of Sioux City; a daughter, Jo (Nelson) Evans of Blacksburg, Virginia; two grandchildren; and a great grandson. Memorial celebration:  1:30 p.m. September 22, 2002, at Unitarian Universalist Society of Black Hawk County, 3912 Cedar Heights Drive, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
