Fern V. Phillips

Services for Fern V. Phillips, 71, of 1523 W. 18th St., will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery. She died Friday (May 19, 1989) at M.D. Anderson Hospital, Houston, Texas, of cancer. Mrs. Phillips was born December 23, 1917, in Salem, Missouri, to Claude and Jennie Cooksey Clay. She married Cecil K. Phillips March 14, 1941, in Springfield, Missouri. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa and was a secretary there. She was also on the faculty at Price Laboratory School. Until her retirement in 1981 she had been employed in the speech department at Cedar Falls High School. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gary C. Phillips of Midland, Michigan. and Stephen C. Phillips of Morris, Illinois; her mother of Lake Jackson, Texas; a sister, Faye Carey also of Lake Jackson; and six grandchildren; she was preceded in death by an infant son, James. Friends may call at the Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, from 1 to 9 p.m. today and until 11 a.m. Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
