Arlene A. Ruthenberg

Miss Arlene A. Ruthenberg, retired Youth Collection and Assistant Professor Emeritus, died on August 22, 1989, at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She had served as Youth Collection Librarian in what is now the Donald 0. Rod Library at UNI from 1968-1979 except for the year 1969-1970 when she was an instructor in the Department of Library Science at the University of Northern Iowa. She was born May 1, 1917, in Lime Springs, Iowa, the daughter of H. A. and Freda Simdorn Ruthenberg. A graduate of Dike High School, Arlene Ruthenberg earned the two-year degree from Iowa State Teachers College in 1937 and the B. A. from I.S.T.C. in 1953. She earned her Master's degree from Wayne State University in 1967, specializing in Library Science Education. Before coming to the University of Northern Iowa library faculty she taught at Marshalltown and Mason City, and was teacher of English and Librarian at Peet Junior High School in Cedar Falls. Arlene Ruthenberg was a resident of the Cedar Falls Health Care Center at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her three brothers, Bernard, Arnold, and Fred Ruthenberg. Graveside services were held at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls on August 25, 1989.
