William K. Metcalfe Obituary William Kent Metcalfe, son of Thomas S. and Goldie Ruth Pierce Metcalfe, died at his home in Cedar Falls of natural causes on June 11, 1994. Dr. Metcalfe was born on October 21, 1917, in St. Louis, Missouri. He received A.B. and A.M. degrees from Washington University in St. Louis and began a career as a tenor, singing at Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral in St. Louis, the Municipal Opera of St. Louis, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. After several years as a professional singer, he earned a D.S.S. (Doctor of Social Science) degree from Syracuse University. Before coming to the University of Northern Iowa Political Science Department, he taught at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Professor Metcalfe traveled extensively in Europe, doing research on his report on the European Common Market. He was active in the Democratic Party of Black Hawk County and conducted political behavioral research in Black Hawk County. Dr. Metcalfe was a member of the Cedar Falls Rotary Club for 33 years. Dr. Metcalfe retired from UNI in 1985, after twenty-four years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents. There will be visitation at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home on Friday, June 17, 1994, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 20, 1994, at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
