To: All Faculty and Staff Members From: Howard Knutson, Dean, College of Education Date: 18 April 1975 Virginia Ramsay, Assistant Professor of Physical Education for Women, died on Thursday, 17 April 1975. Miss Ramsay was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on 28 August 1919. She graduated from high school in Watson, Missouri, in 1937, and attended Cameron Junior College in Lawton, Oklahoma, and Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. She graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1941. In 1948 she received her M. A. degree from the University of Iowa. Miss Ramsay taught in the public schools of Iowa -- Corydon, Leon, Chariton, and Clinton--before going to the Laboratory School of the University of Chicago, where she taught from 1946 through 1954. She taught one year at East Central State University in Ada, Oklahoma before joining the staff of the University of Northern Iowa in 1955. Miss Ramsay was a member of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation; the Iowa Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation; the National Association of Physical Education for College Women; the Central Association of Physical Education for College Women; and the National Education Association. She served on a number of committees and study groups for these organizations. At the present time no arrangements have been made for services. When arrangements are made the flag will be flown at half mast and the Campanile bells played in memory of Miss Ramsay.
