              Steve Gulick Steve Gulick, 61, of Des Moines, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, February 4, 2016, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, from complications of cancer. He was born August 30, 1954, in Oelwein, son of Roger and Lois Schaeffer Gulick. On April 17, 1993, he married Barbara Hemann at St. Stephen Catholic Student Center in Cedar Falls. Steve attended Iowa State University and then the University of Northern Iowa, where he received a bachelor’s degree in English and went on to receive a master of philosophy degree from UNI, where he received the Outstanding Master’s Thesis award for his work on Ezra Pound in his M. Phil. thesis. Steve was a dairy farmer and also a teacher at UNI and Hawkeye Community College. Most recently he worked with SILC (Statewide Independent Living Council) assisting with computer work. Survived by: his wife, Barbara Hemann; a daughter, Carrie (Sullivan) Ridge and her husband Stuart; three grandchildren Piper, Tristan, and Scarlett; his mother; two sisters, Becci (Ron) Costello and Brenda (Gary) Bonnstetter; his mother-in-law, Joan Hemann; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: his father; and his father-in-law, John Hemann. Services: 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at St. Joseph Chapel, Dowling Catholic High School, West Des Moines, where the family will receive friends for an hour before the service. Iles-Westover Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: may be directed to Heifer Project International, American Cancer Society, or Animal Rescue League of Iowa in Des Moines.
