                 R. Paul Brimm   Department of Educational Administration and Counseling October 31, 1985 Professor Emeritus Robert Paul Brimm passed away Wednesday evening, October 30, 1985, at Sartori Hospital, Cedar Falls, following an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 2. Dr. Brimm is survived by his wife Betty, daughters Ann and Jean, and son Robert. Dr. Brimm joined the UNI faculty in 1948 and retired in 1982 with thirty-four years of service to the university, the first sixteen as principal of Malcolm Price Secondary Laboratory School, and the remainder as Professor of Educational Administration and Counseling. He had been a public school teacher and administrator before coming to UNI. Dr. Brimm's gracious assistance to schools throughout his UNI tenure is legendary. As a middle school advocate, he served as practitioner, author, and theoretician. For many years he was involved with the North Central Association, chairing its Commission on Schools. Most recently he served as Executive Secretary of the Iowa Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. His dedicated, humble, selfless modeling of leadership integrity was recognized by all. A recipient of many professional service awards, Paul Brimm was most proud of the many students he helped prepare to become effective school administrators. The R. Paul Brimm award is presented annually to an outstanding middle level educator in Iowa. Paul was a native of Illinois and received his formal education both there and in Missouri. Contributions are being accepted for the R. Paul Brimm Scholarship, University Foundation. DATE: October 31, 1985 TO: Department of Teaching Faculty FROM: Ross Nielsen Following an illness of several months, Paul Brimm died at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 1985. A memorial service will be held in his behalf on Saturday, November 2, at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Cedar Falls. Paul served as secondary school principal in Price Laboratory School from 1948 through 1964. He continued to serve the university as a Professor of Secondary School Administration in the Department of Educational Administration and Counseling until he retired in May 1983. He will be remembered for his deep concern for the welfare of school students, his great pride in the accomplishments of the Laboratory School, and his significant leadership to junior and senior high school principals through his work with the university, the North Central Association, and the Iowa Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Individuals wishing to contribute to Paul's memory may consider contributions to either (1) the R. Paul Brimm Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is being established to support graduate students in secondary school administration or (2) the Department of Teaching Scholarship Fund, which annually recognizes graduates of NU High. In either case, checks should be made out to the UNI Alumni Foundation indicating the appropriate fund in which the money should be deposited.
