Obituary for Norman D. Mutchler Norman Daryl Mutchler, 93, of Waverly, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the Waverly Health Center. He was born November 6, 1923 in Sparta, Michigan, the son of Othelo and Miriam (Hill) Mutchler. On July 27, 1957, Norm was united in marriage to Susie Bryant at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  Norm served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII and earned his BS degree from Morningside College. He was a Math teacher and football coach at Harlan High School and a Track Official for 38 years, serving as starter and referee for the University of Northern Iowa, Wartburg College, and Iowa High School Athletic Association State Meets. He later owned and operated Sportsman’s in Storm Lake.  Norm served as Chairman of the Storm Lake and Waverly Airport Commissions and was a Lions Club member for over 40 years. He belonged to the Waterloo Rock and Mineral Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Coin and Mineral Association, Messex Magical Association, and the Eighth Air Force Historical Society. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. Norm had many hobbies including: trumpet playing, hunting, fishing, camping, archery, metal detecting, coin collecting and coin estate evaluating, rock hunting, cutting and polishing gemstones, wood working and carving, marble collecting and restoration, and reading. He worked many shows as a magician and was a flight instructor for ten years.  Norm is survived by his wife, Sue of Waverly; two daughters, Karen (Mark) Mohring of Sioux City, IA, and Mary (Tom) Juneau of Des Moines, IA; three sons, Carl (Paula) Mutchler of Clinton Corners, NY, Kent (Laura) Mutchler of Geneva, IL, and Bryant (Laura) Mutchler of Bettendorf, IA; eleven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
