Jessie Reola "Sally Gal" Smith, 74, of 1632 Mount Carmel Drive, Waterloo, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at home of natural causes.
She was born November 1, 1934, in Durant, Mississippi, daughter of James H. Allen and Gladys Stigler. She married Willie James Epps in Mississippi, and he preceded her in death in 1984.
She retired from the custodial department at the University of Northern Iowa in 1988.
Survived by: a daughter, Willie Marie (Marvin) Monroe of Waterloo; two sisters, Louise Randall Jessie Smith and Millie Cobbins, both of Lexington, Mississippi; and a brother, Leon, Sr. (Ella) Thurmond of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, Willie J. Wade and Leno Montgomery.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church, and for an hour before services Tuesday. Sanders Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: may be directed to the family at 1750 Newell Street, where they will receive friends.
