Commons Hostess
Irene Eaton lrene Eaton, known by many University of Northern Iowa alumni as "Ma Commons", will be the Grand Marshal for the UNI Homecoming parade on Saturday, October 3, 1981. Mrs. Eaton was the hostess at the Iowa State Teachers College/State College of lowa/University of Northern Iowa Commons from 1937 until she retired in 1972. A UNI graduate of 1921, she was voted in 1966 by the Men's Union as its "Favorite Girl". She received the UNI Alumni Service Award in 1964 and an honorary life membership in 1967 from the I-Club, the varsity lettermen's club. After she retired, she continued to live in Cedar Falls until 1975 when she joined her son, Eric, a 1956 UNI graduate, and his family in Guam. She now lives in San Diego.
