Dr. Hsi-Ling Cheng, 78, of Cedar Falls, died January 29, 2004, at his home. He was born January 15, 1926, in Yuki Fukien, China, son of Mr. and Mrs. Te Kuang Cheng. Dr. Cheng received his bachelor of law degree from the National Chengchi University in China, and his master's degree and Ph. D. degree from Columbia University in New York City. He worked in diplomatic service from 1947 to 1962 in China for European Affairs and taught at Lingnan University, Canton, China, prior to becoming a professor at the University of Northern Iowa. He was a professor of history at UNI from 1966 until retiring in 1988. Survived by: a brother, Hsi-Fan Cheng of Thejiang, China; and two sisters, Pi-Cheng Cheng of Jiangsu, China, and Pi-Feng Cheng of Fujian, China. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Wesleyan Church, with inurnment at a later date in China. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
