Gordon Bradford Denton

Gordon Bradford Denton, 87, of rural Riverside, died Monday, February 25, 2002, at his home after a lengthy illness. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church in Riverside.  Burial with military rites will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Riverside.  A luncheon will follow at St. Mary's Church. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home in Riverside with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Denton was born August 18, 1914, in Aurora, Illinois, to Jack and Elizabeth (Meyer) Denton.  He married Mildred O'Conner on September 7, 1942.  He served in the U. S. Army for twenty years, serving in World War II and the Korean War.  He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and was inducted into the Military Hall of Honor. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Muscatine Elks, past member and president of the Kalona Rotary Club, and Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce.  After retiring from the military, he returned to college and completed his graduate education before becoming a professor at Mankato, Minnesota.  He taught business, primarily marketing and advertising, at the University of Northern Iowa.  He retired in 1980. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Billie Nickolan and her husband, Arlen, of Riverside; one son, Gordon Bradford Denton, II, and his wife, Isabel, of Boulder, Colorado; three grandchildren; and a half-brother, Robert Nelson of Ft.
