Gerald Duane Bisbey

Dr. Gerald Duane Bisbey, 77, of Cedar Falls, died at home Thursday, July 8, 2004, of metastatic colon cancer. He was born July 28, 1926, in Waterloo, son of George H. and Amelia Rohrssen Bisbey. He married Lola M. Silver on August 12, 1950, in Waterloo. Dr. Bisbey graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1944 and served with the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a B. A. in math and physics; and received his master's degree in educational statistics from Iowa State University, Ames. He received his Ph. D. in education statistics from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. He began teaching math and physics at Cedar Falls High School in 1950; taught at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls, for four years; then joined the staff at the University of Northern Iowa in 1964, serving as director of institutional research and also taught educational measurement statistics, retiring in 1992. Survivors include: his wife; a daughter, Joan Christine (Jim) Martin of Marion; two sons, James Allen (Kathryn) of Ankeny and John Louis (Dori) of Rockledge, Florida; and two grandchildren, Rebecca Jane Baych and David Andrew Baych, both of Cedar Rapids. Preceded in death by: his parents and a brother, James Everett. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. Memorials: may be directed to the Nazareth Lutheran Church choir, Christian Crusaders, Salvation Army, Cedar Falls Kiwanis Club, Phi Delta Kappa fraternity at UNI; and St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 4 Church Street, Cocoa, Florida.
