Frank C. Hartwell

Hartwell, Assistant Professor in the Department of Teaching, passed away Thursday, December 7, at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls following a series of heart attacks which began two years ago. He had taken a leave of absence from his teaching position in the Price Laboratory School for the 1967-68 school year. Mr. Hartwell, who was born in Nashotah, Wisconsin, in 1903, had served on the University staff since 1948. He received the B. S. degree from Northern Illinois University in 1948, the M. A. degree from Colorado State College in 1949, and took additional work at the University of Missouri and the University of Iowa. His field of special interest was industrial and fine arts. He was a member of Epsilon Pi Tau Fraternity, Cavaliers (scholastic honor fraternity at Northern Illinois University), Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, and American Industrial Arts Association. The Nelson Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Cedar Falls, with Rev. Robert Gilliam officiating, and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls. The flag will be flown at half-mast Saturday afternoon, and the campanile bells will be played during the time of the funeral service in memory of Mr. Hartwell. It has been requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the University of Northern Iowa Foundation for the Department of Teaching Memorial Scholarship Fund.
