Doris "Jean" Mether, 89, of Oak Knoll Retirement Center, Iowa City, formerly of Cedar Falls, died at the center Saturday. September 22, 2007. She was born August 6, 1918, in Red Oak, daughter of the Reverend Frank and Mimi Cable Blakely. She married Calvin Mether on September 3, 1946. He died in 2003. Mrs. Mether was a personal secretary to the president of Iowa State Teachers College, then taught school in Missouri Valley, Thompson, Independence, and Iowa City. Survivors include: two daughters. Susan (James) Vanravenswaay of Sturgis, Michigan, and Mary Arim of Muskegon, Michigan; three grandchildren; and a sister, Miriam Blakely of Iowa City. Services: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Knoll Retirement Center, with burial in Cedar Falls. Lensing Funeral Home, Iowa City, is in charge of arrangements.
