Highlight: Digitized Images of Campus, 1930s - 1940s

"Drum Majors," nit_org_023, c.1940 in the Student Organizations - Musical series #ORG.06.01, in the Photograph Collection record group 23, University Archives, Rod Library, University of Northern Iowa.

SC&UA now has a new batch of nearly 900 images of campus life during the 1930s, 1940s, and beyond available online in UNI ScholarWorks! We worked with a vendor in 2022 to digitize these images, originally nitrate negatives, which were challenging to use and share because of their format. The photos offer a glimpse into the past and depict many facets of life at Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI), including campus buildings, athletics, musical groups and performances, classroom scenes, dances and other social events, student organizations, faculty, and staff.

To see additional photographs and other digitized University Archives content, visit the SC&UA page in ScholarWorks. To learn more about our extensive photograph collection of approximately 30,000 images, most of which have not yet been digitized, visit the photo collection finding aid or email us at libarchives@uni.edu. We are happy to share our collections with researchers in person, and we can digitize materials upon request.
