Iowa County and City Histories

The State of Iowa is organized into 99 separate counties.  Ninety-seven of those counties are represented with historical works in the Special Collections' Rare Book Collection.  This page is a list of county and city histories available in Special Collections, organized alphabetically by the name of the county.  To locate a city history, you will need to look under the county name in which the city is located.  For example, to find a book on Cedar Falls, you would need to look under Black Hawk County. This list does not include all Plat books and Indexes that are available in the Special Collections & University Archives Reading Room. You may also search the library catalog for additional publications about Iowa counties and other resources.

Special Collections also maintains a selected library of books on the  development of Iowa, its cities, and counties.
