Rosa Lena Ruegnitz

Position:
Music Faculty
To: Members of the Faculty From: J. W. Maucker, President Date: October 14, 1963 Rose Lena Ruegnitz, Associate Professor of Piano Emeritus, died in Rochester, Minnesota, Sunday, October 13, 1963. The community of Cedar Falls, more specifically the college and the Department of Music, lost a citizen, colleague, and dedicated member, one who from the time she joined the staff in September 1923, took an active interest in all phases of college and community life. Miss Ruegnitz will long be remembered not only by her students but by her colleagues and many friends in the community. As a musician and teacher, she was uncompromising in her standards. Also, it was not uncommon for her to provide the financial means as well as the spiritual impetus for a student to continue his studies. She held the B. Mus., and M. Mus. degrees and came to SCI from Northwestern University. Before joining the SCI staff she had appeared as soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and later appeared in recitals in Europe as well as in this country. The fact that two of her former students are now members of our music department staff gives evidence of her ability and talent. To her many friends she was a scholar, world traveler, and strong supporter of church and community activities. From the time of her retirement in 1955 until a few weeks ago, she was present at almost every recital or concert held in this community as well as many lectures and other worthwhile public events. She will long be remembered for her inspiration, friendship, and genuine gratitude to those with whom she came in contact. Memorial services will be held for Miss Ruegnitz at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational Church in this city. The flag will be lowered to half-mast and the Campanile will be played at 2:45 p.m. that day as an expression of respect and admiration to her memory,
