Robert Byrnes, 54, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Sartori Memorial Hospital. He was born July 20, 1949, in Osage, son of Erwin Bernard and JoAnne Yager Byrnes. Mr. Byrnes graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1972 and earned a master's degree in music from UNI in 1974. He had taught at UNI since 1972 in the School of Music, was also an administrative assistant, campus carillonneur, and director of the UNI Varsity Men's Glee Club.
Survived by: his mother of Osage; three brothers, James of Pacific Beach, California, Mark (Candace) of Oceanside, California, and Casey Joseph of Oakland, California; and four sisters, Mary Catherine Byrnes of Buhl, Idaho, Patricia Jo Byrnes of Las Vegas, Janet Marie (David) Wright of Dubuque, and Jill Caroline (Kevin) Byrnes Lange of Cedar Rapids. Preceded in death by: his father.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Waterloo, with burial in Fairview Cemetery Cedar Falls. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. There will be a vigil service at 9 p.m. tonight at the UNI Campanile. Memorials: may be directed to Les Hale Endowment Fund.
