Melvin F. Schneider

Melvin F. Schneider, 92, of 1615 Merner Avenue, died January 11, 1997, at Sartori Memorial Hospital of congestive heart failure. He was born March 7, 1904, in Lark, Wisconsin, son of Charles F. and Amelia Thiele Schneider. He married Naomi J. Manshardt on September 14, 1940 in Naperville, Illinois. Mr. Schneider received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin, and had taught music, mathematics, and social sciences in various schools. He was instructor of music at Price Laboratory School, University of Northern Iowa, from 1945 to 1960, then did independent research. He was a founder of the American String Teachers Association and in 1947, his book Music for Every Child, was published. Survived by: his wife. Preceded in death by: three brothers, Walter, Earl, and Arthur, and three sisters, Lena, Clara, and Ruth. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at United Church of Christ; with inurnment at a later date in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation, his body was deeded to the University of Iowa, Iowa City. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: may be directed to United Church of Christ.
