Hunter, former Professor of Economics at the University of Northern Iowa, passed away on May 19, 1968, at the Lutheran Home, Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she had made her home since 1966. She was born in Butlerville, Iowa, on July 5, 1880, received the B.A. degree from University of Northern Iowa (then Iowa State Teachers College) in 1912, and the M.A. degree from the University of Chicago in 1918. Miss Hunter joined the staff at the University of Northern Iowa as an instructor in 1918 after having taught in the public schools of Red Oak, Cedar Falls, and Waterloo. She was advanced to the rank of assistant professor in 1920, to the rank of associate professor in 1932, and to the rank of professor in 1949. After assuming emeritus status in 1950, she continued to teach on a part-time basis until 1960. She had been a member of the American Economics Association, Iowa Association of Economists, American Association of University Professors, American Association of University Women, National Education Association, and Pi Gamma Mu. Funeral services for Miss Hunter will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, at the Dahl Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton, Iowa. The flag will be flown at half-mast Wednesday afternoon, and the Campanile bells will be played during the time of the funeral service in memory of Miss Hunter. It is the wish of the family that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the University of Northern Iowa Foundation for a memorial scholarship.
