Nielsen DATE: March 25, 1981 Mardelle Mohn, a member of the department faculty from 1948 to 1975, died Saturday morning, March 21, at Springfield, Missouri. Mardelle was a member of the Physical Education faculty of the Laboratory School until 1970, then served as a coordinator of student teaching until her retirement. She succumbed after a long, courageous battle with rheumatoid arthritis and accompanying complications. There will be no funeral or memorial service. Following cremation, she will be interred at her family plot in Springfield, Illinois. TO : All Faculty and Staff DATE: April 9, 1981 Mardelle Mohn IN MEMORIAM Miss Mardelle Mohn, Emeritus Associate Professor of Teaching, succumbed on March 21, 1981, after a long, courageous battle with rheumatoid arthritis and accompanying complications. She served the University from 1948 to 1975, when she retired and moved to Hollister, Missouri. Miss Mohn was born in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Lester and Hazel Naylor Mohn. She received a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in business administration and journalism, from Bradley University, and Master of Arts degree in physical education and health with a minor in science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. During her career she taught business administration and physical education in several schools in Illinois before she came to Cedar Falls. From 1948 to 1970 she was a member of the physical education department at the Price Laboratory School, but also taught health, methods, and other courses in the Department of Physical Education for Women. The last four years at the University of Northern Iowa she was a coordinator of student teaching in the Waterloo, Vinton, and Independence schools. Mardelle will be remembered by her friends and colleagues as an intelligent and versatile person, one who gave completely of herself in dedication and commitment to her teaching and her students. She had unusually highly-developed skills in teaching, writing, administration, and public relations. She worked with many committees and held leadership positions in Price Laboratory School, the University, and throughout the state. She was active in the American Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance at state, district, and national levels, and in the Association for Teacher Educators. Frequent requests were received by the University Extension Service and the North Central Association for her consultative services. She was cooperative and diligent in working with colleagues in related departments and in joint ventures. Miss Mohn's influence was felt in the community as well as the University. She was a member and secretary of the Cedar Falls Recreation Commission and was active in such organizations as the Waterloo Kennel Club and the Cedar Valley Dog Training Club. She was a personal and professional inspiration for those who knew her because of the intense concern she showed for students and the position of respect and affection in which she was held by parents, students, and colleagues.
