Fletcher, 68, of 3516 Carlton Drive, Cedar Falls, died Sunday, April 7, 1996, at Sartori Memorial Hospital of complications of emphysema. LaVerne began his career at UNI in 1984 as a Storekeeper in the Department of Residence. He held this position until he retired in November 1993. He was born October 1, 1927, in Cedar Falls, son of Sylvester and Laura Griffith Fletcher. He married Rubye Ann Tegtmeier on March 20, 1948, in Cedar Falls. She passed away in December 1993. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia A. Oestereich of Waterloo, and Carol Aswegan of Cedar Falls. Carol is employed by UNI at the Center for Energy and Environmental Education. Survivors also include, three grandchildren, four brothers, Ed and Leonard, both of Amarillo, Texas, Donald of Abilene, Texas, and Russ of Staffs, England; and two sisters, Dorothy Troutwine of Atkinson, Illinois, and Alice Rockwell of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Dale. Memorial services were held Wednesday, April 10, at Richardson Funeral Home, with burial at the Garden of Memories, Waterloo. A memorial fund has been established.
