Jean T. Kennedy

Jean T. Kennedy, 69, of Waterloo, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, of cancer. She was born August 5,1932, in Atlanta, Georgia, daughter of Barton E. and Winifred Hamm Thrasher, Jr. She married Victor N. Kennedy on June 30, 1956. Mrs. Kennedy received a bachelor's degree from Wesleyan College and a master's degree from Northwestern University. She was a published author in the Atlantic Monthly and the Arizona Quarterly. She worked for newspapers in Atlanta, Chicago, and Waterloo as an editor. She also taught English and literature at the University of Northern Iowa, retiring in 1998, and was president of the Waterloo Reciprocity and PEO Sisterhood. Survivors include: a son, Philip, of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Laura Cummings of Cedar Rapids and Elaine Kennedy of Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, with burial in Cedar Memorial Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call for an hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.
