TO: University of Northern Iowa Faculty and Staff FROM: Marlene Strathe, Associate Dean, College of Education DATE: August 17, 1987 Dr. Gary S. Soroka, Associate Professor of Teaching and Coordinator of Student Teaching, died Sunday, August 16, in an automobile accident in Minnesota. Dr. Soroka was born in Monessen, Pennsylvania, on October 29, 1949. He received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Pennsylvania State University and his Ed.D. degree was earned at the University of Massachusetts. Prior to coming to UNI in 1984, he was a supervisor of student teachers at the University of Massachusetts. Between 1974 and 1977, he served as a science curriculum specialist and teacher educator in Maseru, Lesotho, Africa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 1987, at the Bartron Funeral Home in Montrose, Pennsylvania. Burial will be in New Milford, Pennsylvania.
