Fred Yiew-Min Ma

CEDAR FALLS - Fred Yiew-Min Ma, 75, of 8702 University Ave., died at home Tuesday, July 23, 1996, of cancer. He was born April 7, 1921, in Taishan Village, China, son of Ming and Wai Fong Mah. He married Harriet Kwong on October 10, 1947, in Guangzhou, China. Mr. Ma graduated from Sun Yat Sen National University with a law degree, then received his political science and library science degrees from the University of Minnesota. He was employed at Kansas State and then at Wesleyan University at Salina, Kansas, until 1960; then until retiring in 1988, had been head of the catalog department in the Rod Library at the University of Northern Iowa. Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Vivien M. Anderson of Austell, Georgia, Laurinda M. Romportl of Hopkins, Minnesota, and Symone K. Ma of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Lee of St. Louis, Missouri. Preceded in death by: a daughter, Sylbie Blau. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, with inurnment at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.
