CEDAR FALLS -- Eduard Plorins, 89, of Clear Lake, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, March 15, 1995, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, of natural causes. He was burn October 12, 1905, in Cesis, Latvia, son of Lauris and Emilija Plorins. He married Zelma Grinvalds on Oct. 8, 1934, in Nereta, Latvia; she died in 1993. Mr. Plorins and his family fled from Latvia to Germany in 1944. He worked as a mechanic for the Allies until emigrating to the United States in 1949. He was a farm hand in Missouri for two years, then moved to Cedar Falls and began working at Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa, as an electrician, retiring in 1970. Survived by: two sons, Lauris of Marysville, Washington, and Ziedonis "Zeke" of Clear Lake; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: several brothers and sisters. Services: I I a.m. Saturday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with burial in Bear Lake Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today and an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Eduard Plorins Memorial Fund.
