Bertha Schwanke, 94, of Windsor Care Center, died there Sunday, April 14, 1996, of natural causes. She was born August 17, 1901, in Cedar Falls, daughter of David L. and Alice R. Rexstrew Savage. She married Frank Roberts on December 25, 1920, in Cedar Falls. He died December 21, 1961. She married Louie Schwanke on July 23, 1967, in Cedar Falls, He died August 1,1969. Mrs. Schwanke was employed at the University of Northern Iowa Library for eighteen years, retiring in 1965.
Survived by: two daughters, Barbara Sterrett of Cedar Falls and Dolores Bovis of Urbandale; a son, Lynn Roberts of Greenwood, Indiana; a foster son, Harlan Epland of Dubuque; and ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: a son, Calvin T. Roberts; four brothers, George, John, Edgar, and Charles Savage; and three sisters, Eleanor Andersen, Clara Ilax, and Elsie Mitchell. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Home, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials: may be directed to First Christian Church.
