Merchant Scholarship Winners, 1954-

The Merchant Scholarship was established in 1951 by Professor Frank Ivan Merchant, a member of the faculty of what is now the University of Northern Iowa.  Professor Merchant willed his entire estate to fund the scholarships.  He stated that the scholarship fund should be viewed as a gift from both him and his sister, Kate Matilda Merchant.  The scholarships are awarded to alumni of the University of Northern Iowa who intend to pursue graduate education.

The first Merchant Scholarship was awarded in 1954.  Since that time about 200 students have benefited from the Merchant Fund, with total awards well over $200,000.
