Charles Wheeler, 78, of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, died there Tuesday, January 21, 2003, of complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was born February 7, 1924, in Pittsburg, Kansas, son of Charles and Dolly Rupe Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler served in the US Marine Corps during World War II and was a professor in the English department at the University of Northern Iowa, retiring in 1978, and was also an author. Survived by: a son, Ben of Cedar Rapids; five daughters, Lisa Wheeler, Lorna Wheeler, and Amy Wheeler, all of Denver; Colorado; Emily Wheeler of Independence and Katy Wheeler of Cedar Rapids; and five grandchildren, Hannah, Lindsey, Tori, Dakota, and Jordy. Preceded in death by: a sister, Dorothy Hoge. Services: 11 a.m. today at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home chapel, with burial in Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk. Dahl-Van Hove Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: may be directed to Alzheimer's research.
