Elvin R. "Bud" Watters, 94, formerly of Waterloo and Hudson, died Friday, September 11, 2015, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home, Reinbeck. He was born April 2, 1921, in Hudson, son of Raleigh and Agnes Faulkner Watters. He married Kathleen "Kay" Lehner on May 24, 1944, in Oil City, Pennsylvania; she died January 30, 2006. Bud graduated from Hudson High School in 1939 and served in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II. He played professional baseball, worked at Waterloo Mills, and then was a boiler operator at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, retiring in 1982. Survived by: three daughters, Sharon (Douglas) Coonrad of Hudson, Barbara (James) Gooder of Radnor, Ohio, and Carol (Galen) Zimple of Traer; seven grandchildren, Jeni (Erin) Adair, Kathy (Mark) Barrie, Doug Coonrad, Jr., Andrew Gooder, Angela (Matthew) Langston, Trusha (Chris) Shimp and Jason Zimple; ten great-grandchildren, Corbin Gooder, Annalee Langston, Paige Brannon, Kathleen Langston, Morgan Ingamells, Parker Ingamells, Jayden Adair, Sean Adair, Kacey Shimp, and Danielle Shimp; a brother, Dale of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: his parents; an infant brother, Wilber; two sisters, Ethel Aschenbrenner and Ruth Oliphant; and two brothers, Gordon and Pete. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at Hudson United Methodist Church, with burial in Hudson Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Hudson American Legion Post 559, Hudson AMVETS Post 82, and Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo. Memorials: may be directed to Hudson Library.
