Gregory Bernard Shanley, 49, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. He was born August 7, 1960, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Gibson B. and Doris Ramser Shanley. He married Sonya Grace Steele on August 28, 1982, in Okeechobee, Florida.
Mr. Shanley graduated from Parma Heights High School, Parma Heights, Ohio, and received his bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio University in 1982. He spent twenty-eight years as a journalist in radio and joined Iowa Public Radio at KUNI in 1986.
Survived by: his wife; a son, Evan (Angie) of Waterloo; a daughter, Leigha Shanley of Des Moines; a grandson, Titan Shanley; his mother, Doris Shanley of Pittsburgh; a brother, Gib (Miriam) of Geneva, Ohio; two sisters, Cindy Shanley of Houston and Cathie Basil of Pittsburgh; and his maternal grandmother, Sara Ramser of St. Louis. Preceded in death by: his father.
Memorial Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with inurnment at a later date. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today, and for an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
