Hilma Marie Schimmels, 95, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly. She was born September 17, 1920, in rural Cedar Falls, daughter of Hans C. and Emma Nielsen Petersen. She married Fred Schimmels on February 18, 1944, in California. He preceded her in death on October 5, 1986.
Hilma graduated from Iowa State Teachers College High School and attended Grandview College in Des Moines. She worked at Sartori Memorial Hospital, the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, Plastronics in Grundy Center, and retired in 1985 from the University of Northern Iowa after seventeen years of service.
Survived by: a son, Clifford (Joyce) of Denver; a daughter, Sandra (Douglas) Patrie of Clarksville; a son-in-law, Kenny (Doreen) Weber of Albertville, Minnesota; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Schimmels of Cresco; twelve grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: her parents; a son, Darrel; a daughter, Marie Weber; a grandson, Jerry Schimmels; and a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Elna Petersen.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Fredsville Lutheran Church, rural Cedar Falls, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
