Dr. Edward Rutkowski, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. He was born March 11, 1925, in Milwaukee, son of Edward and Florence Hoden Rutkowski. He married Helen Hass on August 29, 1959, in Marinette, Wisconsin. Dr. Rutkowski attended Marquette University, receiving his bachelor of arts degree in 1952. He later earned his master of arts degree 1959 and his Ph. D. in 1963 from Michigan State. From 1953-1959 he taught junior and senior high school classes in Illinois. In 1963 he began teaching at the University of Northern lowa, retiring in 1990 as professor of history and philosophy of education. He was past president of the Midwest Society of the History of Education and was founder and editor of their journal from 1972 to 1990. Survived by: his wife; a son, James (Meg) of Richmond, Virginia; and three grandchildren, John, Duncan, and Ava Rutkowski. Preceded in death by: his parents. Services. 10:30 AM Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 til 7 PM Monday at Richardson Funeral Home, where there will be a 4 PM Rosary and a 7 PM vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
