Dining Services Secretary

Elizabeth Marie Rogers, 81, of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, formerly of Waverly, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at the home of natural causes. She was born May 22, 1924, west of Denver, daughter of Henry Fredrick and Ida Mathilda Zacharias Kirchhoff. She married Francis G. Rogers on May 26, 1942, at St Mark's Lutheran Church, Queen City, Missouri. He died November 20, 1990. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1942. Mrs. Rogers helped her husband operate his Shell Service Station and then did custodial work in area homes and for the Waterloo Register Company in Cedar Falls. She later became a nurse's aide at Allen Memorial Hospital and then graduated from the secretarial program at Hawkeye Technical College, Waterloo. 

She went to work at the University of Northern Iowa, first as a secretary in Maucker Union and then as secretary for the director of dining services. She retired in May 1989 after twenty years of service at UNI. Survived by: a son, Rodney (Cherie) of El Paso, Texas; a daughter, Janice Rogers of Cedar Falls; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Kirchoff of Waterloo; and a sister, Helen Bales of Waverly. Preceded in death by: three brothers, Henry Kirchhoff, Jr., Walter William Wilkens, and August Ernest Kirchoff; and seven sisters, Dorothy Ann Wedemeier, Irene Matthias, Lucille Jungling, Emma Kirchhoff, Bertha Edler, Elsie Louise Cook, and an infant sister. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Good Shepherd Chapel, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and for an hour before services Monday at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. Memorials: may be directed to the family or Alzheimer's research.
