Virginia C. Rhode, 85, of Independence, formerly of 1409 College Street, Cedar Falls, died Saturday, August 2, 2003, at West Village Care Center, Independence. She was born March 7, 1918, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Mahlon E. and Dora E. Woolston Warner. She married Carl Raymond Rhode on May 10, 1941, in Nashua; he died November 20, 1969. Before retiring in 1988, Mrs. Rhode was secretary at Bender Hall at the University of Northern Iowa.
Survived by: a son, Ronald. C. (Susie) of Independence; a son-in-law, Richard E. Brandenburg of Waterloo; and seven grandchildren. Preceded in death by: two daughters, Patricia Brandenburg, and Delores Rhode in infancy; two grandsons and four granddaughters; and two brothers, one in infancy and Don Warner.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Richardson Funeral Home, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials: may be directed to First Baptist Church.
