Nathan L. Reed, 89, 345 Marion Boulevard, Marion, died Monday, October 22, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. It was Nathan's wish to donate his body to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church. Friends may call today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church. The Reverend William Pugliese will officiate. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Nathan was born January 24, 1918, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, son of Edward and Addie (Linn) Reed. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II. He married Bertha Bruner in 1939. She died in 1978. Nathan was a barber for over fifty years and owned and operated the College Hill Barber Shop in Cedar Falls. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and the American Legion. He married Dorothy Fullerton in 1985.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Dorothy, are a daughter, Rachel Moore (Tom) of Ormond Beach, Florida; a brother, Lyle Reed (Reta) of Mesa, Arizona; four stepchildren, Kathy Brown, Christy Osthimer (Kenny), Steven Fullerton (Kathleen), and Stan Fullerton; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Bertha; a son, David; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Fullerton; and two brothers, Dean and Bill. Nate was always optimistic and had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved children, his church, his family, and fishing for crappies with special friends. He volunteered for many causes and was an avid gardener. He loved the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church or to the Willis Dady Emergency Shelter.
