Clare R. Rampton, 78, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of cancer. He was born December 19, 1924, in Dysart, son of Fred and Wilhelmine A. Cold Rampton. He married Angela M. Kerr on July 27, 1957, in Houston, Texas. Mr. Rampton was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed as a sports announcer for KTUR Radio, Turlock, California, from 1949-1950; was sports director for KWWL Radio and TV, Waterloo, from 1950 to 1955; and was in sales and sales promotion with Rath Packing Company, Waterloo, for twenty-six years, retiring in 1984. He had been the voice of the Northern Iowa Panthers for football and basketball on various stations from the 1950s to early 1990s. He also was the voice of the grounds and master of ceremonies at McElroy Auditorium for Cattle Congress for thirteen years. He currently was serving as an announcer for Christian Crusaders Radio Ministry. He had received his bachelor's degree from College of the Pacific, Stockton, California, in 1950. Survivors include: his wife; three sons, Scott of Seattle, Lance (Barb) of Madrid, Iowa; and Todd (Jada) of Cleveland; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Becky, Erin, Grant, Tucker, Audrey, and Jessie; a brother, James of Naperville, Illinois; and a sister, Marjorie Talbot of LaQuinta, California. Preceded in death by: a brother, Richard. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Cedar Falls, with inurnment in Rampton Cemetery, Dysart. Friends may call from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Home. Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice Home, the church, or Christian Crusaders Radio Ministry, in lieu of flowers.
