Cecil K. Phillips, 86, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the Sterling House in Cedar Falls of natural causes. He was born March 14, 1915, in Greenfield, Missouri, the son of Arch and Callie Almeda Bugg Phillips. He married Fern V. Clay March 23, 1941, in Springfield, Missouri. She died May 19, 1989. Mr. Phillips received his bachelor of science degree from Southwest Missouri State University and his master's degree from the University of Missouri. He then received his doctorate, also from Southwest Missouri State University. He served as principal at the Fulton, Missouri, High School from 1947 to 1948, and then served as a faculty member in the education department at the University of Northern Iowa, retiring in 1982. Mr. Phillips also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Survived by: two sons, Gary of Midland, Michigan, and Stephen of Boulder, Colorado; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: a son, James; and a sister, Madge Friend. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and for an hour before services Friday at the church. Memorials: may be directed to the Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship Fund or the charity of the donor's choice.
