Esra Olesen, 81, of Waterloo, died at home Monday, April 29, of natural causes. Esra began his career at UNI in 1961 as a Painter. He was a Supervisor at the time of his retirement in 1980. He was born August 18, 1914, in Denmark, son of Marinus and Jensine Hansen Olesen. He married Varla Frandsen on October 12, 1938, in Denmark. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lene Schaefer of Mason City; a son, Dr. Bjorn Olesen of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; four grandchildren; and a sister, Ebba Christensen of Denmark. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ove and Borge. Services were held Thursday, May 2, at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established. He married Varla Frandsen on Oct. 12, 1938, in Denmark. Mr. Olesen was a sign painter for the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, for 19 years, retiring in 1980. Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Lene Schaefer of Mason City; a son, Dr. Bjorn Olesen of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; four grandchildren; and a sister, Ebba Christensen of Denmark. Preceded in death by: two brothers, Ove and Borge. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial fund will be established.
