Mary "Jane" Mangin, 83, of Waterloo, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of a stroke. She was born August 10, 1925, in Waterloo, daughter of Amos and Lucille Miller Johnson. She married Robert J. Mangin on January 4, 1947, in Waterloo. He died April 29, 2003. She graduated from University High School of Los Angeles in 1942. Mrs. Mangin was employed at the University of Northern Iowa's Rod Library for twenty-five years, retiring in 1997. She was enjoying her favorite pastime when she suffered the stroke, reading a book on her front porch. She was also very active in many church organizations, including quilting, the Rosary Society, and the Bridge Marathon. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Survived by: a daughter, Kathleen (Bill) Gales of Waterloo; six sons, Patrick (Nora) and Peter (Pam), both of Waterloo, Paul (Cathy) and Mark (Denise), both of Clinton, Alan of Cedar Rapids, and Anthony (Michelle) of Des Moines; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Geraldine Mervin of Cedar Falls; and many nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by: a son, Michael, in 1963.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. Memorials: may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the UNI Foundation for the Donald 0. Rod Acquisition Fund.
