Ruth E. Koeppel, 80, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. She was born November 2, 1926, in Oelwein, daughter of LuVerne and Gertrude Henry Nelson. She married Donald Koeppel November 11, 1946, in Waterloo. He died August 18, 2000. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1944 and attended Cornell College. She worked as a secretary at Orange and Central schools in Waterloo and at Rider Hall at UNI until retiring in 1988. Mrs. Koeppel was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at the Cancer Treatment Center. She was president of the Whittier School PTA and a Girl Scout leader.
Survived by: a daughter, Carol Lynne (Jeff Olsen) Koeppel-Olsen of Burnsville, Minnesota; and three grandchildren, Kathryn Palmer, Lauren Olsen, and Alexander Olsen of Burnsville. Preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; and a sister, Genevieve Moldenhauer.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, preceded by inurnment at Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home. Memorials: may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice or the Salvation Army. Condolences may be left at the Locke Funeral Home website.
