Wilbur Duane Johnson, 70, of Indianapolis, formerly of Cedar Falls, died March 24, 2001, at his home of natural causes. He was born October 9, 1930, in Ottumwa, son of Amandus and Anna Johnson. Mr. Johnson earned a bachelor's degree from Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, a master's degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, and a doctoral degree from Indiana University in 1976. From 1952 to 1965 he was a junior high school teacher in Knoxville, Illinois, and then was head librarian for North Central High School. After that, Mr. Johnson was a higher education teacher at Indiana University and then a professor at Indiana University, the University of South Carolina, the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, and Indiana State. 

Survived by: a niece and nephew; four great-nieces; and a great-nephew. Preceded in death by: a sister, Marjorie Moran. Memorial services: will take place at a later date, with burial the American Midwest Crematory, Indianapolis. Memorials: may be directed to Indiana University Foundation, PO. Box 2298, Bloomington, Indiana 47402-2298. Leppert and Hensley Mortuary-Nora Chapel, Indianapolis, is in charge of arrangements.
