Valdon L. Johnson, 79, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Sartori Memorial Hospital. He was born August 15, 1932, in Bassett, son of Ralph W. and Beatha E. Barr Johnson. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1950 and served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1958 and a master's degree in 1959. Mr. Johnson later furthered his education at the University of Iowa. He was employed with Webster City Community College from 1959-1967, UNI from 1968-1994, and was professor emeritus from 1994 to present. He was past master of Beaver Lodge No. 472 AF and AM (New Hartford), past Commander Tribune Commandery No. 41 (Webster City), past High Priest of Valley Chapter No. 20, and past Illustrious Master of Aaron Council No. 58, both of Cedar Falls. He was past Worthy Patron of the Cedar Falls Chapter of the O.E.S. and past Illustrious Grand Master of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Iowa.
Survived by: a sister, Marian M. (Lloyd) Schanfeld; two stepsisters, Dorothy F. Baker and Norma J. (James) Pries; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Marilyn Boysen. Preceded in death by: his parents; a stepfather, George F. Munson; a stepbrother, Gerald G. Munson; and a brother-in-law, Arlo Baker.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Public visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Richardson Funeral Home, with a 5 p.m. public Masonic service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Monday at the church.
